Set Your Senses Soaring with Upcoming Events at Paine Field

The Cascade Loop starts in Mukilteo, and there are some great upcoming events that help you encounter its amazing aviation attractions. I was able to experience some of these with my family last year, and look forward to doing so again!

Paine Field Aviation Day
I was delighted with my family's reaction to the Paine Field Aviation Day, which takes place this year on May 21. This action-packed day has sensory delights for all ages. Since my young ones seem to be hungry all the time, we filled our tummies at the firefighters pancake breakfast (which benefits charity). This year, an inaugural 5K run gets the blood flowing before breakfast. As the afternoon sun rose high in the sky, we saw an awe-inspiring fleet from the Flying Heritage Collection, Historic Flight Foundation, and the Cascade Warbirds take to the skies. Seeing the various designs and one-of-a-kind aircraft, coupled with the sounds of whirling propeller engines, brought the vintage planes to life in a way that left our whole family wanting to explore more. As we wandered Paine Field, we were able to actually touch the planes, compare cockpits and armory, and talk with pilots. We grabbed some tasty treats from local vendors, and sat down to watch thrilling flying demonstrations. The best part for me was when my kids, who don't always share my affinity for adventure, expressed their desire to return not only this year, but with their kids in the future.

Tankfest Northwest
The following weekend, we again enjoyed the beautiful Pacific Northwest weather as we attended Tankfest Northwest. It was a fitting way to spend Memorial Day weekend. We physically experienced the parade by the Puget Sound Military Vehicle Collectors Club; the ground literally shook as the tanks rumbled by! Their agility and speed caught us unaware. And there is nothing that helps you experience what a tank is capable of like the firing demonstrations. My kids, with hands clamped over their ears and mouths wide in smiles, thought the artillery demonstrations were so cool! I personally was intrigued with the Kettenkrad tracked motorcycle basically a motorcycle on a tank tread which gave me pause thinking about military operations with such a vehicle. Fresh lemonade and ice cream topped off the event, with promises to return the following year.

Wine, Wings & More
This year, I'm adding a new idea for date night the Wine, Wings & More event at the Future of Flight Aviation Gallery. It takes place June 3, from 6-9 p.m., and is an opportunity to meet with winemakers, beer masters, and boutique distillers and taste their wares. My palate is eager to try some of the food and beverage pairings and enjoy the accentuated flavors. Were also looking forward to the silent auction and hope to take home some lovely selections to enjoy later.

Don't miss this year's festivities for any of these events, and be sure to bring friends!
