Thats Right, its Movie Night!

| 08/10/2016 | Blog, Seattle Northcountry, Summer

Going to the movies these days is an exercise in high-tech CGI, 3D imaging techniques, wait staff for food and beverages, and large recliners to enhance the overall experience. Plush, to be sure, but somewhere along the way, going to a movie morphed into something completely different.

Do you remember the outdoor Thunderbird Theater in Marysville (our neighbor to the northeast)? It closed in the early 90's but the uniqueness of sitting in that little island of intimacy called "your car", windows down, with a corded speaker slung over the edge of your window still brings back memories for many of us. There was an area in the front for kiddos to play, and attendees enjoyed visiting until the movie began. When the Thunderbird Theatre played its last film and the outdoor experience slowly died away, movie-goers lost just a bit of Americana.

Each year, the Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce partners with Rosehill Community Center to host and show two FREE popular movies each August. If you are in the area on the 24th (Minions) or the 31st (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stop by. Folks begin arriving around 7:00 pm, scoping out their favorite location and visiting with friends and family. The Chamber will have popcorn, candy and water for purchase at our booth and other businesses will be on hand to offer free activities, information and a demonstration or two. At dusk, around 8:30, we will begin our featured movie, set against a 50-foot blow-up screen.

We return to the simplicity of gathering together in our neighborhood, packing along low-back lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks for a fun evening. Best Costume prizes will be given out each week. Come as you are or come dressed in character. Its going to be great! (no pets allowed)

(Event may be cancelled due to high winds/rain)
