Regions

We divide the Cascade Loop into nine distinct regions to help you plan your road trip based on the different landscapes you'll pass through, their unique attributes and the activities you can do as you go.

Snohomish River Valley

Kick off your adventure in the Snohomish River Valley, with 2,000 square miles of mountains and rivers, cities and towns, farmlands and coastlines in Snohomish County. Look for three distinct environments in this part of the Loop: coastal communities, river valleys, and urban centers.

Stevens Pass Greenway

Follow the Skykomish River as it winds through the western slopes of the Cascades and you ascend to 4,061-foot Stevens Pass, east of Sultan.

Leavenworth / Cascade Foothills

Wind your way into Bavarian Leavenworth and the landscape shifts to an alpine village — imagine you are in the high peaks of Europe!

Wenatchee / Columbia River

Following the Wenatchee River near orchard-lined Sleepy Hollow, descend into the Wenatchee Valley, historically known as the Apple Capital of the World.

Lake Chelan Valley

Following Highway 97A, descend into the glacier-carved valley and approach the massive lake flanked by wooded hillsides and rolling vineyards.

Methow Valley

Extending from Pateros to the crest of the Cascade mountains, the Methow Valley is Washington state’s Wild West!

North Cascades

Passing by the massive bulk of Liberty Bell and Early Winters spires, the North Cascades Highway 20 climbs steadily through expansive, rugged beauty toward Washington and Rainy Pass viewpoints (milepost 157.6).

Skagit Valley and Fidalgo Island

As it reaches toward the Salish Sea from the North Cascades, the Skagit River has deposited a vast triangle of flood plain soil and nutrients to create some of the richest agricultural land in the Northwest.

Whidbey Island

Travel south down the 55-mile long Whidbey Island, where the pace and natural beauty make it "The Shortest Distance to Far Away®."
